Stanford is going well

Inteviews are pretty much as I expected, though one guy cancelled on me.  Ehhh ... no problem, I'm here to land the Big Fish Anyways (who is tommorow).  So many of the applicants here are so young, still in college.  They're taking the "I don't want to find a job, so I'll go to grad school" approach, rather than the "spend 2 years out of school, then get straight down to business" approach.  It's fine though, I've hit it off more with the experienced people anyways.

One thing I have to say for Stanford though:  It's campus is a frighteningly good recruiting tool.  I recently complained that everything at Stanford is so perfect and polished that it'll make you lose your drive to help others because your own world is perfect.  But, when you're immersed in that world in perfect 70 degree weather with the birds chirping, and free admission to an absolutely empty and wonderful art museum - it's hard to resist.  As well, I've yet to see a piece of broken or less than top-grade piece of lab/field equipment here.  Having less than top of the line equipment is definitely survivable, but having the good stuff makes your life alot easier ...

That having been said, the Stanford likelihood index has budged up an additional 1% to a 6% chance I'll be at Stanford in the Fall.  There's just something about readily available clean bathrooms without graffiti - it's like a planned community turned into a college - where everything is planned and optimized for use - having that much money and endowments will do that for you. Still, the comparatively grim and gritty world of Seattle is appealing in its own way - yadda yadda yadda.

Something a bit humorous showing just how clueless our current administration is about how the modern internet:

I'm sure all those tech-savvy people out there have had to remove the GAIN spyware package numerous times from people's computers (even after you give them Norton, Spybot, and Ad-Aware and they refuse to run them anyways...).  It makes brilliant sense for the CTO of one of the most notorious spyware companies to  somehow be appointed to a high-level GOVERNMENT post with the duty of safeguarding people's privacy.  Wonder if he's involved in some corporate way with some crony in the Bush administration ....

It's funny how on one hand the Bush administration claims that global warming is a scientific theory and that it's part of a natural 10,00 year temperature fluctuation (which is true), which justifies cutting EPA funding by another 6 percent.  Then, on the other hand NASA claims that 2005 was the warmest year EVER, in no small part due to anthropogenic greenhouse gases.  It makes me sick.

Then comes this. That's why I'm definitely not interested in working for anything consulting/government oriented once I get out of grad school.  I think every single one of those corporate decision makers with an eye on the bottom line instead of the environment needs to be transported 100 years into the future when California is under a foot of ocean, and the rest of America is a scorched wasteland - and watch their 10 year old great grandchildren dying of skin cancer because there's no more ozone left.  Good idea - I think I can make it work

Two things

Suprnova.org has officially been replaced in my book - http://torrentspy.net and www.torrentstop.com.  I've done all the research for you people - These are the only two sites which a.  Don't require registration and b. Don't allow private trackers - so problem free downloading every time (like Suprnova.org).  Trust me, I've evaluated Lokitorrent, elitetorrent, Isohunt, piratebay.org etc. etc.  They all suck.  However for TV - I'm definitely using btefnet.com still.

Speaking of somehting I just downloaded:  Team America World Police - the most underhanded take on Action movies I've ever seen.  Definitely Don't Watch With The Parrents (DWWTP) material.  Make sure to catch this one.

Finally - For the people who were around during the Puzzle Fighter/ Sims Days - this article is for you:
